Hutch was powerless to look away. Like watching a train wreck, he stared in stupefied horror. The garish colors— red and putrid green. The screams, the senseless violence—
“I can’t take any more of this!” he whispered.
“Ssh!” Starsky yanked on his sleeve. “Siddown!”
“This is the worst movie I have ever seen.”
“This is a classic.” Starsky waved at the screen. “Goodness and the spirit of giving overcoming—“
“Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is crap, Starsk.” He groaned.
“Thanks for giving me this for Christmas.”
Hutch melted. He’d seen far worse things last May. “You lived for me.”
Great picture for my little story, Mama bird!
You’re very welcome!
lovely snippet and great photo.
Merci, Madame! I love that picture, too.
They give each other a lot of happiness. This story and picture gave the same to me. Thank you.
Aw, thanks! I can just see Hutch’s face–he didn’t quite realize the extent of the horribleness of the movie.
Good one! 😀
Thank you! I sort of wish I’d had the time to write more, but drabbles have to be 100 words, so…
Heee… heee! Did Hutch really give *that* gift! He better not complain now. 😀
And that picture is fabulous!
Yes, true, but he hadn’t actually seen the movie beforehand. 😉
So “them”! Ha, that is a wretched movie & Starsky would love it!
I don’t think I could watch the entire thing–the trailer on Youtube did me in. Thanks for reading!
Stupid question (with tongue firmly planted in my cheek), but is ‘Santa Claus Conquers the Martians’ a real film title? (No time to check IMDB right now). If so, would anyone bother to put it on video tape? All that aside, this is a wonderfully funny way to start a day. The picture and snippet are both terrific! Thanks, guys.
Not only is it a real movie–you can watch the trailer (if not the whole film) on Youtube. The trailer was bad enough for me, and it is generally considered one of the worst movies ever made–up there with Plan 9 from Outer Space.
Why is it the really, REALLY bad films are space flicks? As an amateur astronomer and science fiction nut, I’m saddened. Oh well… sigh.
Thanks again, D and F, for this great 2nd day!
LOL! Hutch would give Starsky a gift he’s asked for without knowing about it! Adorable! Thanks for the story and thanks, F, for the pic.
I just knew Starsky would appreciate the horribleness of the movie–he’d be a fan of MST3000, too!
Oh, no, Hutch. Haven’t you learned by now not to make deals with Starsky? Thanks for the fun story, Dawn. And the picture is hilarious!
I doubt Hutch will ever learn than lesson–nor Starsky learn it about Hutch. Think of the last scene in the pilot, yet they remained best friends forever.
Poor Hutch! Surely, Starsky’s company can’t be worth the awfulness of this movie…?
exactly! He has his Starsky back, surely two awful hours will fade in a decade or two. Thanks for reading.
Cute short story and lovely accompanying pic! That movie sounds like something Starsky would enjoy!
So true. Starsky has an appetite for the worst in movies–but the best in friends.
YEAH!!!!! Now, that’s a perfect last line. Thanks so much for the correction, F. Makes it even better. (‘ficlet’ what a wonderful word )
😉
From scary to funny to heartwarming all in just one drabble – wow! What a ride, and what a wonderful read. And the picture is delight, too!
Isn’t that picture perfect? I take no credit for that at all, but it makes the story.
SCCTM is one of my favorite bad movies! Poor Hutch, this isn’t going to help him embrace Christmas. Thanks for the laugh, I love how you took us from tension to humor to love in just a few paragraphs.
So you’ve seen the whole thing? I wanted to call this Pia Zadora’s Triumph, but so few people know who she is or that she played a martian girl in the movie.
Without the last line this is great, with it it’s beautiful!
Awww, thankee.
Aww. Very nice, babe. I read Rivoli as Ravioli at first-lol.
Well, take it from me, Hutch was in a giving mood and even took Starsky to an Italian restaurant for raviolis beforehand, despite the terrors that gives him, too.
I love it! Just so them, and the picture is a perfect match. Thank you, Dawn.
Thanks, babe. That picture makes it for me.
A pleasure read with a touching end…!!!
;D
Aw, thank you ! I knew Starsky would want to see that movie.
Great little story and with a Sweet Revenge twist as well. Love it and Mama Bird did a nice job on the picture.
I love that picture so much! Thank you for reading.
Hilarious and adorable, Dawnwind! Loved Midnight At The Rivoli. Touching ending.
Ursula Angstrom
Thanks, sweets! The guys just tell me what they are doing and I write it down.
LOL! So them and you did what you do best, entertain us!
Thank you, Nancy! I have fun entertaining you.
Awwww, that’s cute, Dawn! Love the pic, too.
Danke! I heard of this movie and knew it was the one for Starsky.
Love this! And the movie is so bad…it’s just so bad. The picture wraps it up. Drabbles are difficult, great job.
Oh, you’ve seen that movie? Then you know Hutch’s frustration. Thanks for reading!
Perfectly them! I love the last line. Yeah, I bet Hutch gives Starsky just about anything he wants after he survives the hit. How could he not?
Thanks, Susan. Yep, that euphoric sentimentalism got Hutch good the Christmas of ’79.
Very cute, Dawn! And kicker of a last line! Certain events in one’s life do put things in perspective, don’t they? I think I have to check out SC Conquers the Martians now . . . just out of morbid curiosity, if nothing else. 🙂
I’ve only watched the trailer–maybe someday I will get the courage to watch the whole movie.
Thank you!
“You lived for me,” perfect finish. Great glimpse at life after SR. Very well done and you couldn’t have picked a more “Starsky” movie, it’s a classic!
Thanks–I heard a mention of the movie a few days before I wrote the drabble and knew that was the movie Starsky would go see.
LOL. great snippet, and such a perfect Boys moment you captured.
Thanks, babe. I’d love to have been sitting behind them!
This is great Dawn. Short and satisfying. 🙂
I very much enjoyed this. I loved the banter and the humor. Thank you! Sorry for the late posting. I finally got some days off in a row and get to run through all the days I missed.
LOL–I know exactly what you mean. The other day, my daughter went to a friend’s earlier than expected, so I sat in Starbucks for an hour to catch up on the calendar.
Glad you had time to read.
