T\u2019was the night before Christmas <\/span>
\nAnd all through the town<\/span>
\nNot a creature was stirring,<\/span>
\nNo crimes going down.<\/span><\/p>\n

Starsky hung his stocking<\/span>
\nOn the hook on the wall,<\/span>
\nAnd quietly hoped<\/span>
\nFor that one special call.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then he lit up the candle<\/span>
\nAnd turned off the light,<\/span>
\nHe walked to the window<\/span>
\nAnd stared into the night.<\/span><\/p>\n

From every house window<\/span>
\nAnd every house door<\/span>
\nWere garlands and lights<\/span>
\nFrom ceiling to floor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then from out on the stairs<\/span>
\nCame a crash, and a din,<\/span>
\nHe opened the door<\/span>
\nHis face wore a grin.<\/span><\/p>\n

The egg nog was made,<\/span>
\nAnd laid out on a table<\/span>
\nWere freshly made cookies,<\/span>
\nAnd a present with label.<\/span><\/p>\n

His friend Hutch came in<\/span>
\nGuitar in his hand,<\/span>
\nTogether they\u2019d sing<\/span>
\nFor peace in the land.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another knock came<\/span>
\nStarsky opened the door,<\/span>
\nHuggy’s face wore a smile<\/span>
\nAs broad as before.<\/span><\/p>\n

The three now together<\/span>
\nThey shared of the feast,<\/span>
\nOf crimes and of bad guys<\/span>
\nThey cared not the least.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tonight was for happiness<\/span>
\nShared among friends,<\/span>
\nNot one of them wanted <\/span>
\nThe evening to end.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then, came the ringing,<\/span>
\nOf the phone, on the wall.<\/span>
\n“Hey Ma! Merry Christmas,”<\/span>
\nAs he answered the call.<\/span><\/p>\n

Midnight came quickly.<\/span>
\nThe three drank a toast<\/span>
\nTo those who are absent,<\/span>
\nTo those we love most.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then Starsky called out<\/span>
\nAs he switched off the light,<\/span>
\n“Merry Christmas to all,<\/span>
\nAnd to all a Good Night.”<\/span><\/p>\n
