\u201cBig enve\u00adlope for you, Starsk!\u201d Hutch called out as he entered their canyon home. Some\u00adthing smells good!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch shrugged out his light\u00adweight jack\u00adet and duti\u00adful\u00adly hung it on the hook beside the door. Some\u00adthing he\u2019d learned from his 20-plus years liv\u00ading with a house hus\u00adband: keep things tidy, and you don\u2019t have to pick stuff up twice. Hutch smiled.<\/span><\/p>\n

Turn\u00ading, he walked into the arms of his lover. They kissed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cUhmm, nice,\u201d Hutch mur\u00admured. \u201cBeen cook\u00ading.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I want\u00aded a good meal.\u201d Starsky smiled at him, a beam that nev\u00ader failed to bright\u00aden up Hutch\u2019s day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch grinned back. \u201cLet me guess.\u201d He sniffed the air. \u201cMeat\u00adloaf, made with that good organ\u00adic ground round steak you bought from the farm\u00aders\u2019 mar\u00adket the oth\u00ader day. Pota\u00adtoes, dit\u00adto on the organ\u00adic, and\u2026 Wait!\u201d He held up a fin\u00adger while sniff\u00ading deeply. \u201cMy favorite! Brus\u00adsels sprouts!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThose are all yours. I made green beans for myself.\u201d Starsky took the tea tow\u00adel from his shoul\u00adder. \u201cDin\u00adner in ten. Want a quick show\u00ader?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPlease.\u201d Hutch plant\u00aded a loud smack\u00ader on the side of Starsky\u2019s face, mak\u00ading him gig\u00adgle. \u201cOh, this is for you.\u201d He hand\u00aded his lover the mani\u00adla enve\u00adlope. Head\u00ading toward the bath\u00adroom, Hutch glanced back to find Starsky star\u00ading down at the enve\u00adlope. Starsky would tell him in good time if it was some\u00adthing he want\u00aded to share. Hur\u00adry\u00ading off, Hutch quick\u00adly stripped, show\u00adered, and changed into com\u00adfort\u00adable sweats.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Hutch returned to the kitchen, he saw the table set, with sev\u00ader\u00adal casseroles on hot pads. Every\u00adthing smelled fab\u00adu\u00adlous, and he was starv\u00ading.<\/span><\/p>\n

Starsky was sit\u00adting at his usu\u00adal spot. He start\u00aded chat\u00adter\u00ading the sec\u00adond Hutch sat down, dish\u00ading up the deli\u00adcious food as he spoke.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHow was the police sta\u00adtion? Did many kids show up for the D.A.R.E. pro\u00adgram? Did you bring home some extra ice cream? Did Aman\u00adda dress up as Daren the Lion?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch forked a Brus\u00adsels sprout into his mouth and closed his eyes. He chewed slow\u00adly. \u201cJesus, Starsk, organ\u00adic makes every\u00adthing bet\u00adter.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Starsky grinned. He cut up his meat\u00adloaf and poured gravy over it. \u201cNoth\u00ading would make Brus\u00adsels sprouts taste bet\u00adter, but\u2026 since I cooked them\u2013\u201d He speared a sprout and ate it. \u201cThey\u2019re okay. If I were starv\u00ading, I\u2019d eat them, but since I ain\u2019t, I got green beans!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch helped him\u00adself to a spoon\u00adful of the beans. They ate in silence until hunger was sat\u00aded. When Hutch had his fill, he leaned back and pat\u00adted his flat stom\u00adach. \u201cYou\u2019re a mas\u00adter, Starsk. Deli\u00adcious.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI made peach cob\u00adbler for dessert from the peach\u00ades you picked over at Kiko\u2019s the oth\u00ader day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWow, what\u2019s the spe\u00adcial occa\u00adsion? Not that I\u2019m com\u00adplain\u00ading, mind.\u201d Hutch put a hand on Starsky\u2019s shoul\u00adder and squeezed. \u201cSome\u00adthing\u2019s got you excit\u00aded. I can tell.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Starsky shrugged, jumped up, and went into the liv\u00ading room, return\u00ading in a few moments hold\u00ading the mani\u00adla enve\u00adlope. He unclipped the lit\u00adtle met\u00adal clasp and slid the con\u00adtents into his hands.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch watched expec\u00adtant\u00adly. It was a large white doc\u00adu\u00adment, mea\u00adsur\u00ading rough\u00adly eleven by four\u00adteen, with what he could see was a gold bor\u00adder around the text. \u201cStarsk?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Starsky took in a deep breath before huff\u00ading it out. He held the doc\u00adu\u00adment toward Hutch so he could read it. The head\u00adline was from Bay City Vir\u00adtu\u00adal Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty in large black let\u00adters. Hutch had heard about this from sev\u00ader\u00adal peo\u00adple when they attend\u00aded the police offi\u00adcers\u2019 annu\u00adal pic\u00adnic and oth\u00ader Bay City events. He also remem\u00adbered see\u00ading a kiosk from this orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtion at the Bay City Fourth of July street fair.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch rose slow\u00adly. \u201cStarsky, this is amaz\u00ading!\u201d He read the con\u00adtents. \u201cYou grad\u00adu\u00adat\u00aded with hon\u00adors? Wow. Why did\u00adn\u2019t you tell me?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Starsky gave a crooked grin. \u201cI want\u00aded to sur\u00adprise you. I know all those years we were on the force, that some of the oth\u00ader cops thought I was too dumb to be your part\u00adner, col\u00adlege boy. Remem\u00adber when we played Scrab\u00adble at that par\u00adty, and I did\u00adn\u2019t win?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cChrist, Starsk, nobody thought that! Scrab\u00adble? That was years ago!\u201d Hutch put the diplo\u00adma down. \u201cLis\u00adten to me. You were amaz\u00ading on the street. Besides,\u201d Hutch said, hold\u00ading Starsky\u2019s hands, \u201cyou were a crack shot, and you got com\u00admen\u00adda\u00adtions for brav\u00adery! You were the best part\u00adner a fel\u00adlow cop could have.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThanks, Hutch,\u201d Starsky said, unable to keep from blush\u00ading. \u201cYou, too. The best.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch looked down at the diplo\u00adma. \u201cCom\u00adput\u00ader Sci\u00adence with a minor in Span\u00adish.\u201d He raised his head to hold Starsky\u2019s gaze. \u201cI can\u2019t tell you how impressed I am.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAh, geez, Starsky said, \u201cthanks. I believe com\u00adput\u00aders will be the future, and know\u00ading a bit of Span\u00adish means I can help peo\u00adple learn how to use them effec\u00adtive\u00adly. I\u2019m gonna vol\u00adun\u00adteer at the job train\u00ading cen\u00adter for a day or two a week.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch pulled Starsky into his arms. They kissed until both were sway\u00ading on their feet.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch put a hand on Starsky\u2019s cheek. \u201cLet\u2019s take this to the bed\u00adroom, Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Starsky laughed. \u201cI\u2019m going to teach you a few moves, bud\u00addy boy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hutch always did like how seri\u00adous\u00adly Starsky took hands-on demon\u00adstra\u00adtions when he taught gun safe\u00adty at The Acad\u00ade\u00admy. Now he would enjoy being cleaned and pol\u00adished by a mas\u00adter.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll get the gun oil, er, lube, and meet you in two min\u00adutes!\u201d Hutch rushed off, the grin on his face enough to make the Grand Canyon look small. \u201cProud of you, col\u00adlege boy!\u201d he called over his shoul\u00adder. He took a moment to glance back at his world wrapped up in a pack\u00adage called Starsky. The plea\u00adsure he could see etched on his lover\u2019s face made him the hap\u00adpi\u00adest man in the uni\u00adverse.<\/span><\/p>\n
