December 15th- Meditating Hutch screencaps by Ursula Angstrom

In honor of Bodhi Day (December 8 — we’re late)! The Day of Enlightenment celebrates when the historical Buddha (Shakyamuni or Siddhartha Gautama, also known as Bodhi) experienced enlightenment. Since Hutch is into meditation, this could be a holiday he would enjoy.

Thank you! Now I have to go watch that episode again!

    • Ursula Angstrom says:

      You’re welcome, KSstarfire. Happy viewing.

P.S. does your nickname mean you are into KS fanfic in Star Trek?

      I am!

  3. Dawnebeth says:

Ommm, Shanti, shanti, shanti yeee–as we say in my yoga class. Thank you!

    • Ursula Angstrom says:

      Hi Dawnebeth!

Please explain more. As I understand it “shanti’ means peace. A friend of mine in another fandom whom I correspond with online is both Catholic and Buddhist. She once told me “shanti” means peace. It is a word that is part of a chant she says near an altar called her ‘puja” corner where she puts items and photos that are special to her. She says “shanti” is something she says to alleviate anger when she feels upset with someone. That is all I know about that word.

I like to learn more about other cultures, customs, beliefs and yoga has always intrigued me. Unfortunately I have had so many injuries that have partially crippled me during my life that even limited gentle stretching can be problematic and injure me. When I see people doing yoga they always seem so focused and centered. I admire the dedication it takes to seek new heights in body, mind and spirit. Yoga looks comforting, peaceful and artistic. Like turning your body into living art forms during some of the poses.

I take two yoga classes, and am luckily blessed to be extremely limber, even now that arthritis is making certain poses more difficult.

Shanti does mean peace. one of my teachers ends the class with the chant I posted–and then she says “my kindred spirit honors your kindred spirit.” which I think is so lovely.

Oh, neat, I didn’t know about that holiday at all. And boy what a look that is on Hutch! ^^

  5. Sam (samudee) says:

We celebrate the day in May (wesak day or Vesak day)- it’s the full moon day of May 🙂 -/ I think Japan celebrates it on Dec 8th.

    Great caps, Ursula 🙂

    • Ursula Angstrom says:

Please explain more, Sam! I love to learn things about different cultures, countries, people, religions, and beliefs. I will look up wesak and Vesak day on the Net, but Internet sources are not always reliable and accurate sources of information. I am a voracious and avid reader. Learning is my passion.

Great caps from a great scene! Thanks for starting off my day in such a nice way.

  7. Spencer5460 says:

Thanks for giving me a nice subject to meditate on!

  8. Ursula Angstrom says:

Thanks to all who commented on the pics and text of Hutch meditating in honor of Bodhi Day. I can take absolutely NO credit for the text. That was courtesy of Flamingo and the Elves responsible for the Advent calendar. Back in November, when Flamingo was asking for submissions for this year’s calendar she mentioned a Buddhist holiday and how Hutch was meditating on one of the eps. I happened to have those pics in a FAVORITES file on my computer and told her to send them in honor of that holiday. I did not even know the name of the holiday. Now I do! And I can research it. I love to learn new things! Thanks, Flamingo! Thanks, Elves!

Glad everyone is enjoying those wonderful pics of David Soul.

That is NOT a sock, Provencepuss. Socks do not curve upwards and sideways so firmly.

(This is the only time I have seen David curve to the right though. Must be the looser pants. Usually he and Paul both curve left in jeans and other tight pants they wear on the show when they become aroused.)

You crack me up, mon ami! Thanks for the giggle.

    Ursula

  10. Kat says:

    He’s a fine fellow, isn’t he? 🙂 Thanks!

  11. Ursula Angstrom says:

Fine as red AND white wine (as Huggy Bear might rhyme).

I think the Torino would like that one….

    Happy Holidays, Kat!

  12. Bee says:

Interesting – I didn’t know this day exists. -sorry-
Really nice pictures…and Hutch shows what he’s got to offer.
    😉

  13. Ursula Angstrom says:

    To Flamingo & The Elves:

Would you put up the information you mentioned about a multi-cultural calendar and/or site where you mentioned the Buddhist winter holiday and Hutch meditating which inspired me to send you those pics in honor of that holiday? I would like to learn more.

    Thanks!

    Ursula
