Three separate drabbles about ‘the first time’.

“Hmmm?”
“Why did we wait so long?”
“Well… maybe… because… it wasn’t the right time.”
“The stars weren’t aligned?”
“Something like that.”
“The omens were inauspicious?”
“Indubitably.”
(Silence)
“Scared, you think?”
“Probably.”
“Didn’t want to ruin what we had?”
“Definitely.”
“It won’t, you know.”
“I do now.”
(More silence)
“Hutch?’
“Hmmm?”
“Why did you kiss me?”
“Because you looked like you needed it, Starsk.”
“I guess I did, but… This wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t.”
“I know.”
“Then why?”
“Because… I hoped… maybe… it was the right time.”
(Silence)
“Hutch?”
“Hmmm?”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome…. My love.”
“Hmmm.”
“Starsk?”
“Hmmm?”
“When did you know?”
“When you kissed me.”
“An hour ago?”
“No. In the hospital.”
“You remember that?”
“I was unconscious, Hutch, not dead. (chuckle) I’d just gotten over being dead.”
“Don’t remind me.”
“The mustache felt weird. But it was the sweetest, most caring, loving kiss I’d ever known. My heart flew right into your hand. It’s been there ever since.”
“Hmmm.”
“When did you know?”
“When I woke up and saw your name on the window.”
“Really?”
“Should we send Gunther and Callendar thank you notes?”
“No.”
“I love you, Starsk.”
“Love you, too, Hutch.”
“Hmmm.”
“What do we do now?”
“Pretend it never happened?”
“Not an option.”
“Get married?”
“Not yet an option.”
“Would you?”
“In a heartbeat.”
(Silence)
“So, what do we do now?”
“Check into a clinic?”
“For ‘the cure’?”
“Yeah.”
“Hypnosis, electroshock treatments, heterosexual porn flicks twenty-four/seven, sex therapy with gorgeous… therapists.”
“You’ve read the brochures.”
(More silence)
“Do you want to be ‘cured’?”
“No… Do you?”
“Never.”
“We’ll be discrete.”
“Careful.”
“Circumspect.”
“No touching in public.”
“Now, wait a minute…”
“At least no kissing.”
“Okay.”
(Silence)
“And as soon as it’s an option?”
“I do.”
“Me, too.”
“Hmmm.”
“Hmmm.”

Dialogue-only stories are hard to do, but I love them when they’re done well, and yours here definitely are! I really like how short and often snappy the exchanges are.
And the pictures make such nice little illustrations!
Thank you, Calliatra, for your very kind words. These were my very first drabbles and they just flowed. They were also my first dialog-only pieces and I discovered I loved the format. Nothing to distract, nothing to dilute the ‘images’ and feelings. Thanks so much for reading and then for letting me know you enjoyed these. As for the images, I cannot take credit for those. When I sent the story to Flamingo, it was unillustrated. She selected the absolutely prefect pics and put them in. I personally think her pics are part of the reason why these work well now. So, I’ll say it again, THANKS FLAMINGOSLIM!!!

You’re welcome, Spencer! I really enjoyed writing them. I could probably have posted them as one of the Twenty Minute Challenges on the 911 site. They practically wrote themselves that fast. But, then, I tweaked them for weeks, trying to figure out where to submit them. Figured here would be great, if Flamingo thought they were acceptable. She’s the one, though, that gets the credit for the fabulously perfect images. She selected them and put them in. I’m grateful to her beyond measure. I’m glad you enjoyed my words.

Actually, Pat, I’ve got no way to “move” the comments, and I thank you for your kind words. I attribute the images to the “Elves” who help out on the Advent Calendar. Thanks for the credit, but I consider any extra images we contribute (sometimes it’s me, sometimes Cyanne, sometimes Suzan, sometimes Google…) as mere “gift-wrapping” and if they work, that’s nice. It’s fun to do, but without the inspiring words, there’s nothing to illustrate.
I’m sorry I didn’t log on much, much earlier this morning then, F; would have loved to have let people know immediately that you (and your elves) need to take credit for at least part of why my drabbles work; the pics! When I opened the ‘date’ this morning and read the piece again, I loved the first photo that was chosen, the second was fabulous, but it was the third that made me cry (seriously). It was so absolutely perfect! Please, please thank all the elves for me; I’m speechless with gratitude. (Well, not speechless, I guess ) And I thank you for the lovely words!

Drabbles are fun, but I found they can be exasperating. Thanks for taking the time to let me know you enjoyed mine.
I’m with everyone else, the dialogue is natural and easy to follow. The words read right for the characters and it doesn’t need anything but the dialogue, but the pics are the icing on the cupcake. Thanks, Pat & Thanks, “Elves”!

What a heart-melting, sentimental story, Pat! Every word of the dialogue was perfect. I could see them snuggling in bed afterwards having this conversation so vividly. I love the images your writing evokes in my mind and the emotions you evoke in my heart with your talent.

They were GOOD chills, Bee. Her ancestry was German, interesting. I loved my mom a lot. She loved S&H, too; we talked about them together all the time. I miss her terribly and think about her every time I write a story.
That was really sweet. I could hear them talking to each other that’s how real it felt.

Pat, loved this. I am really liking the drabble type stories. Kind of remind me of Haiku, or as Starsk says ‘highkuku’. You have to say a lot in a little. This was really sweet, and funny and I loved it! Great job!
