    WOWZERRRR! Mutual Gift INDEED!!
Your art work NEVER ceases to amaze me!
    KUDOS!!

  2. Jennifer C says:

Waaay thumbs up! Beautiful coloring and shading. Warms me up on this cold night!

  3. Mortmere says:

If anyone wonders about the fireplace, there’s some background information here: https://mortmere.dreamwidth.org/17481.html

You know, Chekhov said something along the lines that if there’s a gun in the background in a play, it should be fired before the play is over. Same goes for fireplaces, doesn’t it?

  4. Calliatra says:

Oh, that’s beautiful! So full of sweetness and love! And oh, Hutch’s expression is just so perfect… *happy sigh*

And I love that the fireplace isn’t just wonderfully romantic here, it’s canon, too! The way you dig up and research all these small but cool canon facts is so great – really love that, too! ^^

    • Mortmere says:

Thank you, Calliatra, I’m glad to have made you sigh happy sighs! The fireplaces in both their apartments have intrigued me for a long time – we never see them being used, so that had to be corrected. πŸ™‚

  5. vassalady says:

This is so gorgeous and romantic and sweet!

  6. Jenny Conti (CallieDoodle) says:

Thank you for sharing your gift! What a talented artist you are. It’s lovely and hot, all at once.,.

  7. Lisa A says:

This is just beautiful! I love their hands in each other’s hair!! Everything about this is just perfect and I can’t stop looking at it! Thank you for your gift!!❀️❀️

    • Mortmere says:

Thank you, Lisa! “Can’t stop looking at it” is probably the best compliment an artist can get. <3 <3 <3

  8. Lisa says:

Amazing. Right out of my mind and onto the screen!

  9. Spencer says:

I know it’s labeled “not safe for work” but Damn I had to open it anyway. Thanks for all the details, Mort. Great stuff.

    • Mortmere says:

Well, it’s not very NSFW, really. πŸ™‚ Glad to hear you took the risk, though, and that it lived up to your expectations, Spencer!

  10. mvernet says:

Oh! Mortmere! You’ve done it again! This is amazing! The details put it right in the episode. I can imagine this being Hutch’s real gift to Starsky. (Although I’ve never understood what is wrong with a tree planted in your honor, old flower child that I am)

I hope Santa puts something this good under your tree!

    • Mortmere says:

I loved Hutch’s tree gift, too , though I know it was played for a joke to annoy Starsk. For me, it spoke of leisurely afternoons off spent in the park, a promise of companionship that lasts at least that tree’s lifespan, and so much more. (Way better than those poor ants trapped in a plastic box, anyway!)

All these lovely comments here are enough of a gift for me. Thank you for yours!

  11. pat says:

This is so beautiful, Mortmere, I *had* to make a 300-piece puzzle out of it. Now I can concentrate on the details while I put it together any time I want! Like Lisa A., above, the hands in each other’s hair is so perfect, it makes me shiver. Thank you!!!

    • Mortmere says:

Thank you, Pat! Feel free to make puzzles out of any of my art if that enhances your enjoyment. πŸ™‚

Side bar to Mortmere: Hardboiledbaby’s podfic (Dec 14th) Has a pic from those clever elves with Hutch barefoot and Starsky holding his shoe. Starsky knows if it’s an earth shoe, exersole or adidas. We should ask him nicely!

    • Admin says:

Elves can’t take credit for hardboiledbaby’s podfic pic. She found that herself!

    • Mortmere says:

I LOVE that photo! I wonder where Starsky threw the other shoe! We might ask him that, too.

(I have a big Hutch shoe post in the works, just takes a little more research. Still haven’t found evidence of earth shoes or similar, but I keep hoping, as someone else, too, said they think they’ve seen such shoes on Hutch.)

  13. veronica says:

    This is just beautiful.

  14. kat says:

This is stunning and drop dead gorgeous. I’m so impressed! Wonderful! Thank you.

  15. Mystic says:

What a wonderful mutual gift! Warms my heart!

  16. Shazta says:

Enchanting. The colors are perfect. The kiss is sweet and hot. The background details sublime. I love it so much. I just want to keep looking at it. The hands in hair is such a very nice touch. You have created a very special mood and image.

  17. Matsir says:

I agree with the others. The placement of their hands just makes the kiss that much more tender and passionate and so very hot!

    • Matsir says:

And imagining the firelight on those (soon to be naked) bodies…. sigh

      • Mortmere says:

Thank you, Matsir! And a good afterthought there… Hmm-mmm… (But let’s imagine that the orange shag rug is really clean for a change – Fifi, we’re looking at you! Sometimes it looks pretty filthy in the show. Hutch’s allergies might act up!)

  18. TSilvy says:

This is SO beautiful, the atmosphere so warm and sweet. As everyone else said, I love the hands into each other’s hair and even more I love the soft way Hutch is cupping Starsky’s cheek with his other hand, barely brushing it, so tender and cherishing… And of course, their expressions are spot on. This is really gorgeous. Thank you for it! <3

    • Mortmere says:

Aww, thank you, TSilvy! I loved making this one because ALL THE FEELS. I’m a junkie for fluffy Xmas stories, all year round, and I wanted to put all that warmth here, in gratitude to the authors of such stories.

Hutch’s other hand is my personal favorite here – when I first saw it properly placed there, I felt it was echoing that lovely, gentle way Starsky stroked Hutch’s cheek with his thumb in the end of Survival. Holding something so precious to him. Works both ways. <3

  19. Marianrose says:

Gorgeous art. You have really done a marvelous job at making the Love shine through.

  20. Garrideb says:

This is ridiculously beautiful. It’s a rare artist who can make hands look that good… and you didn’t stop at their hands. Their faces, hair, and the soft background are all perfect!

    • Mortmere says:

Hutch’s bee-yoo-ti-ful hands (and everything else, partner included) keep me very motivated. πŸ˜‰ Thank you for this lovely comment, Garrideb!

  21. Dawn Rice says:

Ooo lala! Merry Christmas for Starsky and Hutch, indeed!

  22. hardboiledbaby says:

The ornaments are pretty and the fire is warm, but they can’t compete with the two gorgeous and hot men lip-locked together πŸ˜‰ Beautifully done, Mortmere!

    • Mortmere says:

Thank you, Baby! You know those hours-long fireplace videos on YouTube? I might actually watch them, intently, if there were these two in front of the fire, adding some real spark. πŸ™‚

  23. Ursula Angstrom says:

You artwork is always incredible! Thanks so much for creating this romantic holiday art for us to enjoy.

    Hugs1

    Ursula

  24. Marz says:

Back at it again with the EXCELLENT art! Starsky’s hand woven into Hutch’s hair is just over the top lovely! In fact, all the hands….*stares*….THERE ARE SO MANY HANDS! Thank you for including all four. Maximum hand inclusion FTW!

Also, this is so nice because they’re wearing their last scene outfits from Little Girl Lost. I always felt a little bad for Starsky when Hutch gave him the tree. Don’t get me wrong, a tree in your name is a cool gift. But this is David Starsky we’re talking about. Here we see another gift forthcoming!

Also, I love the carpet for some reason. And the blue and silver Christmas tree. This being you, I’m sure everything exists in the show, but I hadn’t noticed these details before. Delightful!

Aaaaaaand just their faces and lips and everything are perfect! I don’t know what else to say – it’s amazing! A true joy.

    • Mortmere says:

Marz, thank you! You know I love that tree as a gift, but I agree, Starsky needed something more – something touchable, right-here, right-now.

There was a version where I left Starsky’s right hand out of sight (it wanted to head south along Hutch’s back – I don’t blame it!), but it didn’t look right in the end. Maximum hand inclusion was the only way to go.

I took some liberties with the Christmas tree (the one Starsky brought wasn’t this big, or so color-coordinated) but otherwise the picture is set in Venice Place – the huge orange rug is one of my favorite things there. (Here’s a bit about the fireplace: https://mortmere.dreamwidth.org/17481.html )
