December 14th- No Visions of Sugar Plums by Dawnwind

The lobby had the shabby elegance of an aging debutant. Much like herself, Alice thought. The remembrance of what had been and what could be. A Christmas tree, leaning to the left and festooned with faded baubles, provided a hint of holiday cheer.

Alice leaned on the liquor stained bar. It was slow — very few lonely travelers out on a stormy Christmas Eve. Didn’t matter, she’d lost the holiday spirit long ago. Just another day to earn cash, on her back with her legs spread.

The bartender knew her and slid a coke with a splash of rum over, free of charge.

“Ho, ho, ho!”

Alice turned with a glimmer of joy. Her two favorite cops.

“Merry Christmas.” Hutch handed her a small box.

“What’s this?” It’d been a very long time since she’d received a Christmas present.

“What do you get for the girl who has all this?” Starsky winked at her. “Open it.”

Nestled in tissue paper lay a gold heart. Giggles erupted, and she nodded as they joined in the laughter.

“You’ll never be a stereotype, always a friend,” Hutch whispered. “Join us for dinner.”

“Turkey a la Huggy, mincemeat pie,” Starsky added.

“Love to,” she said.

Special thanks to Nicky Gabriel for the screen cap.

    • Thanks, babe! You know how it looks different when posted–oh,to change a single word. lol Never satisfied.

  1. at least one hooker really does get to have a heart of gold! I see Hutch is cooking again (snort)

I liked this – you got all the bittersweetness of the lonely at Christmas and and brought along the boys to dustit with sugar

  2. Awe, how sweet of them to think of someone who probably is all alone, and low on the ladder of society to spend their time with.

    • She’s their friend–I go back and forth in my brain on whether Hutch ever slept with her, but I know he wants what is best for her.

  3. Lovely, Dawn. I’ve got this thing about Hutch and Alice, as you are aware. So sweet of the boys to make her day Of course, we know they have a soft spot for her. Hugs. x

  4. Very sweet. Starsky’s dialogue was perfect. I think this is right on with what they would do on Christmas Eve. She should have been in more episodes. Thanks, Dawn. 🙂

    • I do like Alice very much–snitch, sister, friend, whatever she is to them, she should have been around much more.

  5. Great way to start the morning….took me a minute to connect the “heart of gold”, haven’t had my coffee yet! Thanks for a touch of the Christmas Spirit.

    • the heart of gold… lol, I try to balance between overly obvious and obtuse. Glad you figured it out. Thanks for reading.

  6. Thanks for this beautiful story, Dawn! 🙂 Sweet Alice has a heart of gold and we know Starsky and Hutch like her a lot. I would love to read more about Sweet Alice and Hutch! They are a cute couple. *g*

    • Yes, I wonder–did she and Hutch sleep together, or does he keep her at arm’s length? Thank you for reading.

  7. He keeps her at arms length, until the writer pushes them together, that’s my theory! They make the cutest elves! Well done Dawnie baby.

  8. I picture our guys just like this: caring for those who might not have it so lucky during the holidays. Thanks, Dawn!

    • I could just picture her, blond hair shining in the blinky Christmas lights, wearing an old velveteen dress with–yes–spaghetti straps, even in the wintertime.

  9. A sweet and loving gesture to a friend who needs good friends. Thank you!

PS-In my view, I don’t believe Hutch slept with Alice. I really see her as someone he cares about, a bit like a big brother.

    • Everybody needs a little heart! Thank you, and today I’m on the ‘he didn’t sleep with her’ side of the fence.

  10. There are so many beautiful and interesting characters in S&H and Alice is surely one of the most memorable of all.
You did well showing that this can be not the best time of the year for someone in just a few sentences.
