I glance at you and feel the pull
Of searching eyes that grip my will
Sliding my hand across the car seat
You take my hand not missing a beat.
I walk with you on the crowded street
Two steps closer our shoulders meet.
Smiling in sync at the subtle display
No scornful looks can cause dismay.
I stand with you, I have your back
When cold hearts vent a vicious attack.
I slay your dragons with my words
They flutter away like harmless birds.
I know you would do the same for me
I wear my love for all others to see.
I kissed you and my fate was sealed
You kissed me back and love was real.
I will go with you to take our vows
Partners for life, then and now.
Somehow my heart already knew
Partner, life begins and ends with you.

Thanks! So glad you liked it! Kinda liked the dragons, words, birds thing myself. Amazing what the noggin’ comes up with some days with the right inspiration.
This is very beautiful and the imagery is fabulous! I also love the photo. It fits perfectly! Well done mvernet thank you for this gift.
You are welcome! Thank you for your comment. Nice comments are like chocolate candies for the heart.
I’m (practically) speechless, mvernet. I love poetry but cannot write it to save myself (Haiku being the exception I’m working on). This is poignant and lovely and tear-producing. Thank you for this beautiful Christmas gift!
Awww, Pat.(Hugs) Thank you for your comment. Speaking of happy tears, my Daughter married her girlfriend in a civil ceremony at our local courthouse soon after the federal law was passed allowing same sex marriage. The wedding was last minute and small, since they had been together for some time, but the love and support from the families was big time. It struck me at the time how beautiful the new civil ceremony was, ending with the smiling judge pronouncing them Partners for life. The phrase has been echoing around in my poem attic and finally settled on Starsky and Hutch. But it can also be for all partners in life.
Hugs back, mvernet! Thanks for sharing this lovely backstory about where the title came from. Makes the piece that much more special. Thank You!!!
So very emotional and intimate. They speak a language that’s just their own, such closeness and understanding of each other we can only behold; you managed to represent perfectly that love that shines through. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much! That the love shines through is what makes Starsky and Hutch so special. The actors and the characters let their love shine through.
“slay your dragons with my words”
Beautiful, my lady bard, just beautiful. Thank you.
I guess I’m a Starsky and Hutch lady bard. I can live with that! Thank you.
Beautiful! I especially like this line and image it evokes:
I slay your dragons with my words
They flutter away like harmless birds.
Just lovely.
Thank you. Sometimes the muse is right on. Don’t have any control over it!
