Looking at this picture makes me so happy, for so many things! First of all, you’re pretty new here, aren’t you? The more artists in the fandom, the merrier! Secondly, this piece is just so beautiful and so them – you have a unique way with your medium (charcoal?), and the style of this picture is so light and bright and sort of decorative without taking anything away from the likeness. And lastly, the thing that makes me overjoyed is Hutch’s hand on Starsky’s shoulder. It’s a small, heartwarming gesture between them, but it’s so much more, too: as much as I admire the talent and skill of anyone who can do a good portrait or copy a particular scene, the point where I start leaping around in delight (excuse the crazy behavior) is when an artist is brave enough to use that skill to create something more, something new. That’s why I love that hand there, it speaks volumes. Thank you so much for this beautiful gift!
Wow! thanks a lot for this lovely comment.
Well yes, I’m pretty new at drawing Starsky and Hutch (in fact this is my first Hutch ever -and my second Starsky…).
I work with charcoals and sometimes soft pastels.
When I thought about drawing the boys together I never doubted it had to be some contact between them. My original idea was drawing them more or less embracing each other, but I “tend to draw big” and sadly didn’t have enough space so Hutch had to -modestly- put his hand on Starsky’s shoulder.
Happy you liked it 🙂
Thank you!
Well I always try to capture the people I draw by their likeness but also by little details. Hutch’s hand is one of these little big elements that helped me to complete their portrait.
Thank you very much.
I love drawing eyes. For me the eyes are the best and most important part of a portrait.
I agree with you; Hutch’s hand -and hopefully their eyes too- says it all.
Thank you!
Don’t know why but when I was looking for references for the portrait the pictures I liked where the ones when they looked young and “more innocent”, mostly first season. I guess this is an early years portrait then.
Absolutely lovely! The texture of Starsky’s hair and jacket stand out to me… I want to touch them! And I love how crisp and clear their eyes are. Even with the stripes on Starsky’s shirt and checks on Hutch’s collar, my eyes keep getting drawn back to their eyes. Hutch’s arm is possessive but there’s something challenging in both of their expressions, like they know they’re unbreakable and they’re daring the viewer to try. I love it!
Thank you very very much!
You are so right because once I drew their faces and I looked into their eyes I saw exactly what you say: they are unbreakable and they know it. A soft and strong, hard, look at the same time.
I’m so happy you saw the same.
Beautiful work and I know very well how difficult this kind of drawing can be. You have done such an amazing job. They look like Starsky and Hutch. Well done!

How lovely! You really captured them and Mortmere’s right – the hand, casually draped across Starsky’s shoulder – says it all! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you!

oonna, This is soooo wonderful.
I agree 100% with Mortmere. Every thing she said!
Thank you so much for such a beautiful drawing.
And I LOVE puzzles!
Thank you so much! Glad you liked the portrait.
I’ve tried but I’m soooooo bad at doing puzzles on the computer! Did you solve it?
This is very nice. Their eyes are so bright and sparkly, and that hand Hutch has on Starsky’s shoulder conveys their love. Thank you!
Thank you very much.

A real charmer. They look a little youthful to me here. So beautiful!
Thank you!

That’s very nice! I love the overall shiny feeling of the texture.
Thank you very much.
I am so glad that you liked the drawing.
Very sweet, and I love the expressions! Nice job, thank you!
Thanks to you!
I’m so happy you liked their (love) expressions
I enjoyed this drawing of the guys. The pose you drew them in and the expressions you captured on their faces is riveting.
Thank you so much.
This is my first drawing of the boys together and I wanted to show them as they are, always close physically and emotionally.
Beautiful work and I know very well how difficult this kind of drawing can be. You have done such an amazing job. They look like Starsky and Hutch. Well done!
Oh yes, charcoal drawing can be a nightmere! 🙂
Thanks and I’m very glad you liked the work.
