December 6th- Of Blue Skies and Red Sweaters by Spencer

Note: If I could create fanvids (which I can’t), I would set one to One Direction’s Half a Blue Sky. But I can write (I think) and so I wrote this little angsty Kira story based on that song instead.

Starsky studied the miscellaneous collection of shirts, jackets and ties that had slowly accumulated on his bed. The police clothing drive was next week and he was determined to do his part. Anything to take his mind of off, well, everything. He just hadn’t anticipated how the simple exercise of cleaning out his closet would also lead to a re-evaluation of his life.

Every item had dredged up a memory, either for good or ill. The silk shirt given to him by an old girlfriend hell-bent on upgrading his style, a sporty corduroy jacket he’d kept on hand for city council meetings and court hearings, a rainbow of ties now too wide for current fashion. Not that he’d ever cared much about following trends. Perhaps that’s why the girlfriend didn’t last, Starsky mused darkly. Well, it was one reason anyway. Just not the most important one.

And now his relationship with Kira was on the rocks, too. Continue reading

December 6th- Christmas Eve by judithg41

T’was the night before Christmas
And all through the town
Not a creature was stirring,
No crimes going down.

Starsky hung his stocking
On the hook on the wall,
And quietly hoped
For that one special call.

Then he lit up the candle
And turned off the light,
He walked to the window
And stared into the night.

From every house window
And every house door
Were garlands and lights
From ceiling to floor.

Then from out on the stairs
Came a crash, and a din,
He opened the door
His face wore a grin.

The egg nog was made,
And laid out on a table
Were freshly made cookies,
And a present with label.

His friend Hutch came in
Guitar in his hand,
Together they’d sing
For peace in the land.

Another knock came
Starsky opened the door,
Huggy’s face wore a smile
As broad as before.

The three now together
They shared of the feast,
Of crimes and of bad guys
They cared not the least.

Tonight was for happiness
Shared among friends,
Not one of them wanted
The evening to end.

Then, came the ringing,
Of the phone, on the wall.
“Hey Ma! Merry Christmas,”
As he answered the call.

Midnight came quickly.
The three drank a toast
To those who are absent,
To those we love most.

Then Starsky called out
As he switched off the light,
“Merry Christmas to all,
And to all a Good Night.”

December 5th- I Shall Not Pass This Way Again by Dawnwind

The brown grasses of the canyon hills shimmered golden. The evening sun poised on the tallest peak, spreading rays of molten oranges and yellows before dipping down below Starsky’s line of vision. Blue gray clouds limned with the last of the sun’s glow piled in, turning the olive green native foliage to dark, hulking shadows.

Starsky let ice cream melt on his tongue, savoring every cool, creamy bite. At 7:40 p.m., the August heat had finally cooled enough that sitting out on the deck didn’t feel like his flesh would burn off.

The ice cream was a treat. Even better with the thick layer of rich, decadent chocolate on top, and of course, the slices of banana Hutch had insisted on to give the dessert a semblance of healthiness.

Hutch returned from putting the ice cream carton in the freezer, rubbing his hands together as if he’d been shoveling snow instead of dishing out a frosty delight. He picked up his dish, the one with far more bananas than Starsky’s, looking over with an accusatory stare. “Added something to mine, did you?” Continue reading

December 4th- Between This Breath and the One That Follows Part 1 by brianna441

“In the space, the pause between this breath and the one that follows, you have made a home inside me.”
Tyler Knott Gregson

The January afternoon was sunny and warm, perfect California winter weather. Families were picnicking and children playing and having fun. One collection of younger children was playing a raucous game of tag, another few playing catch. A group of older girls had a double-dutch competition going. And down by the pond several children were playing with their little toy boats, some racing and some just sailing.

With the families choosing to spread their blankets over the grass, the picnic tables set back from the pond were empty.

Except for one. Continue reading
