December 10th- Giftwrapped by hatstand

Their first Christmas in the new place — their place — and of course Hutch had to be the one to screw it up. He’d have thrown his hands up in regretful supplication if his arms hadn’t been pinned to the hospital bed by pain and plaster.

“I’m sorry, Starsk.”

“For what, giving me a heart attack?”

Starsky crossed the floor in two strides and leaned over him, forehead lined with worry, hands reaching out to touch and not knowing where to land. The left settled on his cheek, one thumb stroking under his eye, fingertips ghosting behind his ear. The briefest touch; mindful of the setting but still needed. By both of them, Hutch figured, from the faint tremble in the fingertips before they withdrew.

“I ruined Christmas,” he said simply. Continue reading “December 10th- Giftwrapped by hatstand”

December 23rd- Christmas Present by Spencer

It is common knowledge around the Bay City Police Department that Sergeant Detective Ken Hutchinson isn’t a big fan of Christmas. He starts grumbling about commercialism and hollow sentimentalism the moment the first tinsel garland is strung. What everyone doesn’t know however, with the exception of his partner, David Starsky, is why December doesn’t bring on a rush of good cheer for tall, blond detective.

Holidays in Hutch’s childhood home, even with all of its expensive trappings, had been as cold as the Minnesota winter. Years later, his wife, Vanessa, had chosen Christmas Eve to be the night she left. Hutch hasn’t put up a Christmas tree since.

So when Hutch volunteers to take Officer Ambrose’s Christmas Eve shift staking out a house in the valley where there was suspected child trafficking activity, the new father isn’t particularly surprised. Only supremely grateful.

“Enjoy your first holiday with your new son,” Hutch told him with a pat on the shoulder.

“I will!” Ambrose had exclaimed before adding an awkward, “Merry Christmas!” Continue reading “December 23rd- Christmas Present by Spencer”

December 22nd- Catch Phrase by DPPatricks

A bit of fluff during the summer between Seasons 3 and 4.

“Starsky! Hutchinson! My office!… Now!

Hutch sent me a long suffering look, pushed his chair back, and got up. As he walked behind me, he put a hand on my shoulder. “Be nice,” he whispered.

I followed him into the office usually occupied by our captain, Harold Dobey, and closed the door behind me. Instead of Dobey, however, the desk chair was occupied by Captain Levi Stillman, a strict disciplinarian whose appearance was definitely not ‘old school.’ He was in his early sixties and had been called out of semi-retirement when Dobey had had a mild heart attack a few weeks before. Dobey was due back any day but Good Ol’ Levi was bound and determined to exert every ounce of control he had over us miscreants, as he liked to call Hutch and me. “It’s really coming down out there,” Hutch says, watching from the hotel window. They’re in New York for a short visit with Starsky’s mother, brother and whatever other extended family happens to show up while they’re in the area. For privacy — not to mention sanity — they have opted for a hotel room that’s close enough for them to stop by easily but too far for her to want to pop by unexpectedly.

“Yeah. So much for the plans to go to Prospect Park,” Starsky grumbles, flopping down on the bed on his back. “It isn’t supposed to break much today, not according to the papers.” He tosses the offending section to the other bed. “I was looking forward to a trip down memory lane. We spent a lot of time there as kids. If Ma wanted to get rid of us on the weekend, she’d give us a few bucks for peanuts or whatever. If she really wanted us gone for a while, she’d give us enough for the zoo.” Continue reading “December 4th- Chrysalism by Suburbanboho”
